World Athletics Continental Tour 2025 - Challenger Meeting

The International KOST Runners' Meeting has Challenger status on the “World Athletics Continental Tour” again this year! Participants can therefore score points for the World Ranking.

What does this mean?

"World Athletics" changed the qualification system for the World Championships a few years ago (2019). The only decisive qualifying performance, which had been known for many years, was significantly increased and the world best list has now been included as a decision criterion instead. Athletes can qualify by either fulfilling the very high qualification performances (approx. 1/3 of the participants) or by placing themselves accordingly in the “World Ranking” (approx. 2/3 of the participants).

The ranking is of course initially based on the performances achieved. However, the ranking is based on a score that depends on the value of the event (international championships, international meetings, national championships, national meetings) and the placing achieved there. Put simply: The more important the event, the more points can be scored.

At the beginning of the change to the qualification system, it was difficult for athletes to achieve the corresponding points. In order to offer the top national athletes better qualification opportunities in their own country, the proportion of German meetings on the “WA Continental Tour” has been significantly increased this year.
